DAMI Korean Restaurant Jakarta

Hello ! Welcome back with me The Hungry Doctor, yes long time no updating my blog.. I just finished my OSCE it's like my final exam for this semester, so you're gonna see me posting a lot of article this month :p well now I'm going to share not just a review but like introducing Korean food generally because as we know Korean culture has been something special in Indonesian people's heart nowadays. This is the restaurant that I picked as my reference, DAMI Korean Restaurant.

DAMI Korean Restaurant is located at Apartment Gading Mediterania, Kelapa Gading. Same place as Ming , one of chinese restaurant in Kelapa Gading and now has moved to Epicentrum Walk. Maybe from the location they don't look authentic, but when you enter this restaurant you'll think different. Yes, they really korean ! There'll be some waiter & waitress greetings in Korean way, and they directly bring us to our table.

This restaurant is quite big with capacity over 100 seats with 3 VIP Room, I really like their Korean ambiance and also the service, yes they treated me very well, they're absolutely responsive. You'll be amazed when some of the waiters here speak Korean fluently ! For the menu they have many authentic menu but too bad I forgot the details price, but the range is from IDR 80.000 - IDR 400.000 for the dishes, let's review their menu !

Banchan refers to small dishes of food served along the rice and another dishes, or simply says as side dish. Banchan usually served in small portions, meant to be finished at each meal and are replenished during the meal if not enough. Usually, the more formal the meals are, the more banchan there will be. This is what DAMI Korean Restaurant served :

Kimchi is the most common dish served as Banchan in many Korean restaurant, actually they have a lot of variety. Kimchi is fermented vegetables, usually using cabbage seasoned with chili peppers and salt. This is the essential banchan of a standard Korean meal. Some Koreans do not consider a meal complete without kimchi. Kimchi can be made with other vegetables as well, including scallions and radish. Here at DAMI, they served two kinds of Kimchi as the banchan.

Tongbaechu Kimchi

The most common Kimchi in Korean restaurant, it's made from chinese cabbage, actually I'm not really into Kimchi for the first time, but now I enjoy it very much, this kimchi was so great. But as I told you before, the dominant flavor in this kimchi was sweet, I expect more acidity for the seasoning.

This is another Kimchi, called kkakdugi, made from white raddish, there's two kind of kimchi using radish, if they use whole raddish, they called Chonggak kimchi, but when the raddish was bite-sized cubed they called kkakdugi ! They're perfectly cooked :9

5 Months Kimchi

Special Menu from DAMI as the compliment, it's 5 months kimchi ! I really like this Kimchi, this is Kimchi that I want, I can taste their sourness was perfect, the more you keep the kimchi the more level of acidity absorb to the vegetables and it was so great ! Daebak !

Namul is a steamed, marinated, or stir-fried vegetables seasoned with sesame oil, salt, vinegar, minced garlic, chopped green onions, dried chili peppers, and soy sauce and here in DAMI they're using spinach for the namul, in other Korean restaurant we can find bean-sprouts and also another vegetables.

Bokkeum is simply say as stir-fry ingredients with sauce (usually gochujang sauce), and in DAMI they use anchovies ! I like their crispy texture and also the sweet sauce, salty and sweet in one bite :9 and the sesame seed make give some sensation.

Pajeon is a thin pancake with scallion ! I always love pajeon :9 wherever it feels good, but DAMI has a really great Pajeon, because they still hot and soft, and contain a lot of vegetables inside, nyum nyum nyum amazingly delicious !

Gyeran Jjim

Gyeran Jjim is a steamed egg ! Actually when I was kid, my mom often cook this for me and I really like it, it's like remember me about my childhood, and now I often order this Gyeran Jjim when I visit Korean restaurant, steamed egg was so soft with minimalist seasoning, but taste wonderful !

Doenjang Jjigae

Let's move to Korean soup. Soups are a common part of any Korean meal. Unlike other cultures, in Korean culture, soup is served as part of the main course rather than at the beginning or the end of the meal, as an accompaniment to rice along with other banchan. This is Doenjang Jjigae, Doenjang is a fermented soy bean and Jjigae means soup, in Indonesia we call Doenjang as Tauco. Taste really great, salty and tasty, here the broth come from seafood (crab & clams), spicy too, I really love this soup :9

It's one of the most comfort Korean food for me hehe I can eat them anytime (breakfast, lunch, dinner) made from sweet potato noodles called dangmyeon, stir fried in sesame oil with vegetables, usually typically thinly sliced carrots, onion, spinach, and mushrooms, here at DAMI served with beef, and flavoured with soy sauce and sweetened with sugar. Japchae is never fail to impress myself about Korean food :)

Tteokbokki (Topokki)

Topokki made from soft rice cake, fish cake and sweet red chili sauce. In DAMI, this Topokki was perfectly cooked, I love the consistency of this rice cake, and the sweet red chili sauce also blended well with the soft rice and fish cake, also served with boiled eggs :9 I often eat Topokki as the carbohydrate. Feels like Korean :p

Yukhoe is a variety of hoe (raw dishes in Korean cuisine), which are usually made from raw ground beef seasoned with various spices or sauces. It is basically a Korean steak tartare. Usually the most tender part of beef will be used. The beef is thinly julienned with the fat removed, then mixed with seasoning. For the seasoning, soy sauce, sugar, salt, sesame oil, spring onion, minced garlic, sesame seeds, black pepper and julienned bae (Korean pear) are used. A raw egg yolk is usually added, either on top of the dish or separately. DAMI served it really well, with Wagyu beef (you can see the marble) this is the first time I try Yukhoe and I enjoy it very damn much !

Bulgogi is made from thin slices of sirloin or other prime cuts of beef. Before cooking, the meat is marinated to enhance its flavour and tenderness with a mixture of soy sauce, sugar, sesame oil, garlic, pepper and other ingredients such as scallions, ginger, onions or mushrooms, especially white button mushrooms or matsutake. I think everybody know this kind of Korean food, you can easily find them in any Korean restaurant, the beef was so tender and marinated well :9

Galbijjim or kalbijjim is a variety of jjim or Korean steamed dish made with galbi (short rib). Galbijjim is generally made with beef or pork short ribs at DAMI they served it with beef. This braised short beef ribs was perfectly cooked and super tender but still textury. Mixed with potato and carrot as the compliment, they're all great, this is my favorite dish at DAMI, the presentation also beautiful and eye-catching ! It's a perfect ending for my lunch at DAMI :9

I think it's enough, a short introduction about Korean food. Later I will explain you more ;) anyway if you looking for authentic Korean restaurant, DAMI Korean Restaurant is highly recommended ! They serve so many delicious food with affordable price and don't forget their nice ambiance. Annyeong !
