Jakarta, 15 March 2014

I was invited to Mandarin Oriental Cake Shop for tasting some of their new dessert creation on Afternoon High Tea, yes we all knew that Mandarin Oriental Cake is one of the best cake shop in town and of course by it's Cronuts (Croissant Donuts) which I've tried before and they're absolutely the best ! Actually I'm not into sugar-high dish but when the invitation came from them, there's no doubt to say YES.

I wanna tell a little about Mandarin Oriental Jakarta, with the warmnth of Indonesian hospitality and the levels of service for which Mandarin Oriental is renowned, Mandarin Oriental Jakarta offers exemplary personalised service in luxurious surroundings. They held this event for some reason of course, because they just released new sensation of their sweet kitchen by Pastry Chef Wita Girawati. Upon her return, Chef Wita takes the pastry department to new heights with exciting range of innovative eclairs, high-end desserts and handmade chocolates.

Mandarin Oriental Cake Shop already had 2 kind of High Tea : Classic High Tea and Oriental High Tea. Where the Classic one is contained of Assortment of finger sandwiches (egg, smoked salmon with cream cheese, cucumber) , home baked scones served with strawberry jam and clotted cream, american chocolate cake, tiramisu cake and strawberry tart. For the Oriental High Tea they have basket of dim sum with char siew chicken bun, prawn and siew mai dumplings with chili sauce, Indonesian kue klepon, lapis legit and banana cakes. Each IDR 130.000++

But now they had new afternoon tea as I've told you before, you'll be able to experience the new desserts in a sumptous Afternoon Tea available daily from 3pm to 6pm for IDR 230.000++ where included selection of coffee or tea, sandwhiches and of course their new sweet creation. Let's reveal their new menu !

Matcha Goma Cake

So this is Mandarin Oriental Cake Shop new menu ! Matcha Goma Cake, basically this is a white chocolate mouse , green tea mouse and of course served with matcha powder, green tea biscuits with sesame seed jelly, I really love matcha cake personally, because the sweet wasn't overpowering, perfect to start your afternoon high tea.

Piemonte Hazelnut Cake

Well, this is my favourite !! Piemonte Hazelnut Cake also presented in nice way, yep you can see the whole cake there, but for this high tea they also served in chocolate cone which is so good to see and easy to eat them all in one bite haha this is chocolate caramel mousse with hazelnut bavaroise on hazelnut biscuit, combination between chocolate and hazelnut was perfect !!

Emeraude Cake

Vanilla Bavaroise, Red Berries Jelly and Pistachio Sponge. I really like the texture which is like pannacotta and they also not too sweet, the pistachio sponge brings the uniqueness of this cake, and the sour sensation from red berries jelly make this dessert was so unforgettable.

Chocombroise

No flour biscuit with raspberry and raspberry ganache, for me it tastes like black forrest with no rhum, I really enjoy this chocolate based chocolate, and which make it more delicious is the combination between bitter sweet chocolate and sweet sour raspberry, my kind of dessert ;)

Blueberry Eclair

Classic dessert is on the list of their new creation, yep Ecalir and I think everybody loves it ! They have such a really lovely eclair comes with blueberry, raspberry and pistachio, passion fruit and chocolate hazelnut !! Well this is Blueberry Eclair, sweet and sour comes in one bite and dancing in your mouth !

Alliance Apricot

Apricot is quite rare used here, when I see this dessert for the first time I think they're mandarin orange, but when I tasted it's more like mango, and suddenly Chef Wita said this is apricot cake, I was so impressed ! They're really great even better than mango or orange. Apricot and mascarpone mousse with sable breton biscuit, what a delightful cake :9

Lime Macaroon

Never thought that they're Lime Macaroon, I think they're raspberry of something berry because of the colour and the presentation, the fresh raspberry just for the garnish and the twist. So it's purely lime and lemon curd based macaroon served with fresh respberry, beauty yet delicious, really nice macaroon.

Caramel and Apple Tart

Caramel chiboust cream with caramelized apples on almond crust tart, the caramel was quite strong and also the caramelized apples taste delicious, but it's too caramel for me, anyway the almond crust tart was really great, for you who are caramelicious, you guys have to try this one.

Cassava Cake with Cheese

Fermented Cassave Cake with Cheese !! One of my favourite, it's so Indonesian cake, we known this cake as Bolu Tape , I love the aroma, texture and definetely the taste ! The cheese just make it perfect, anyway there's two kinds of cassava cake, with or without cheese and they're all good ! Me love this one

Chocolate Cronuts

HERE'S THE FAMOUS CRONUTS !! Yep they're absolutely on your Afternoon Tea Menu !! Looks so good, the cronuts was thick and the texture was amazing, the best cronuts ever !! The taste is not too sweet, I really enjoy their cronuts, filled and topped with chocolate, wonderful !

Vanilla Cronuts

My favourite Cronuts is Vanilla Cronuts ! Yep the best Cronuts in town filled with vanilla cream and topped with almond, super lovely dessert and I just can't say anything beside I do eat them a lot !

Blueberry Cronuts

Well presented Cronuts, Blueberry cronut, for me they're great even too sweet but for the other they're great yeah !! Now, I know why they're marked as the best Cronuts in Town !

Assorted Sandwiches

Well, here's the balancer of this Afternoon High Tea ! Assorted Sandwiches which is savoury ;9 came in Smoked Salmon, Smoked Beef and Cheese ! I like them all they used wheat bread for the smoked beef and cheese :9 my favourite !

So, there're some of new menu at Mandarin Oriental Cake Shop Afternoon High Tea ! Overall they're all good, but beside that new dessert creation they also had more dessert like American Chocolate Cake, Red Velvet, Chocolate Tart, Black Forrest, Opera Cake, Tiramisu and Lapis Legit hmmm they're all great !! So why don't you do a sweet escape with Mandarin Oriental Cake Shop? They will sweeten your day ;)

Sub-titled “Heritage recipes and true stories” it’s a book to love and treasure. Cape Malay or not, many of us are familiar with the food, but not all of us know how to cook it. Properly. In Bo-Kaap there are lovely, kind, generous women who open their homes to anyone who would like to learn.
